Public Interest responded to concerns about the difficulties in many communities in Scarborough and developed the Scarborough Community Summit process. This community-based planning process has brought together residents, community groups, small business owners, service providers and community leaders to determine appropriate formats for the community summit, identify community priorities, and develop strategies to address these priorities.
The process won the endorsement of Toronto City Council and continues to gather community participation and commitment. Each year, the Scarborough Community Summit has involved more than 1,100 people in a process of community priority-setting and visioning, the results of which are then presented to Scarborough Community Council.
