Alex has worked with communities in Halifax, Mexico, and Toronto as an engagement worker, organizer, and facilitator. In Toronto, he has worked with the Ralph Thornton Centre in South Riverdale and the ACE Program at Jane and Finch. Alex uses a variety of art forms, including mural-making, to engage adults and youth, and to identify and address their key issues in their community. He has launched and led community development, social justice, and democratic reform organizations. His facilitation and collaborative research methods are rooted in popular education, and he maintains that people’s experiences are important starting points to any dialogue. At Public Interest, Alex has done community organizing with Toronto Community Housing in Scarborough, environmental education with the City of Toronto on the Pesticide By-law, collaborative research with adults and with street-involved youth, and supported the development of a community hub.
