Katrina Miller

Katrina Miller joined the Public Interest Team in 2011. Prior to Public Interest, she worked in the environmental non-profit sector where she developed and advocated for local environmental policies and programs by engaging stakeholders from the NGO sector, relevant communities and neighbourhoods, and local government.

She has in-depth experience managing multi-sector collaborations, developing grass-roots campaigns, guiding policy initiatives through government decision-making processes, and crafting media and communication strategies. As Campaigns Director for the Toronto Environmental Alliance (2007-2010), Katrina worked with campaign staff to find environmental improvements that also positively impact equity and social justice in Toronto. At Public Interest, she hopes to continue this work as well as widen her experiences in other issues.

 Accomplishments:

  • Katrina developed a successful campaign to require local industrial polluters to disclose their toxic releases to the public.
  • Katrina spearheaded activities of health, labour and environmental organizations to win a bylaw banning the use of cosmetic pesticides in Toronto. Partners included the Ontario College of Family Physicians, the Canadian Environmental Law Association and the United Steel Workers.
  • Katrina coordinated the Toronto Act Now Coalition, over 12 community organizations calling for fair funding and better public engagement in Toronto’s governance during the Provinces’ development of the New City of Toronto Act.
